Here is a report on the event in Montreal on May 16th:
The Tibetan freedom torch has now arrived here in Montreal on 16th May, 2008. A couple of young Tibetan bikers peddled more than 50kms to welcome the torch from the Quebec Ontario border. They were then joined by me and a young couple with their baby, and we rode our bikes around the city all day long. The local organizations also arranged for a couple of runners to accompany the bikers and take the torch around Montreal. We were welcomed by a large group of supporters in Park Lafontaine and from there, we all( around 100 people) walked towards the Olympic stadium in Montreal to end our symbolic freedom torch march. We had some powerful speakers who addressed the importance of the freedom torch and the plights of Tibetans in Tibet today. Many non-Tibetan supporters also attended the ceremony, and we are always thankful for their solidarity with us. Although we have a very small Tibetan community, the organizers really did their best to bring as many people as possible to mark this event and to reach out to the media to communicate the importance freedom and human rights in Tibet.
