May 19 - Mount Monadnock, USA

Added: May 4th, 2008

The torch will arrive at The Meeting School in Rindge, New Hampshire. Students and other friends of Tibet from New Hampshire, Vermont and western Massachusetts will take the torch up Mount Monadnock, one of the two most climbed mountains in the world.

Tibet supporters will meet at the base of the mountain near the guard house at 3pm and will immediately hike to the top. We hope to all arrive at the top of the mountain by 5pm where we will hold a vigil with banners, flags, and of course the torch. At the top we will hold a vigil that includes three minutes of silence in honor of those who have perished and been displaced in Tibet and China in the Sichuan earthquake. We will chant the Mantra of Chenrizig in hopes of bringing peace and compassion to all the people of the world, especially for our friends in Tibet and their Chinese neighbors. We plan to tie some traditional Tibetan prayer flags at the pass at the top of the mountain. The Monadnock Friends of Tibet will be joined by the Students for a Free Tibet from Keene High School and other local Tibet supporters from southern New England. We hope for at least one hundred participants to accompany the torch up the mountain during its stop in New Hampshire.
